My Story:
My name is Ada. I was born and (mostly) raised in Iceland, but moved abroad to study when I was 19 and have since spent over a decade living in Germany, Denmark & Portugal ♡
Embraced by the North started out as an Instagram account in September 2016. I had just returned to my native Iceland after years of living abroad, and was having a hard time re-adjusting to the cold and the dark. I guess it was an attempt, in a way, to embrace the north in myself. When the pandemic hit, I was living with my daughter in Lisbon, Portugal. We were in Iceland for the winter holiday in February 2020, and we are still in Iceland. Check out my blog post on our Pandemic Life in Iceland!
I love traveling and think it’s a great way to get a glimpse of a new place. However, I believe the only way to really get to know a country is to live there. Moving to a new country can be simultaneously exciting and terrifying! Lately, in these pandemic times, I’ve been rediscovering my native Iceland. I guess no one knows where the future will take them.
I’m all about responsible tourism, mindful living, nature and outdoors adventures, creativity, finding the balance between healthy eating and delicious treats, and spending time with lovely people ♡
My Credentials:
My original background is in Music. I did my bachelor studies in Music Performance at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, continued by master studies in Music Performance at the University of Music -Franz Liszt- in Weimar, Germany.
Later I got a BSc degree in Tourism and German from the University of Iceland, followed a MSc degree in Brand Management and Marketing Communications from the University of Southern Denmark. In addition, I have a professional diploma in Digital Marketing.
When I was a musician, I performed in various countries, recorded music and taught music students.
Since getting into tourism and marketing, I’ve worked for many companies, such as Hostelling International, Trex – Travel Experiences, Iceland Travel and Arctic Nature Hotel, as well as freelance.
